WASHINGTON – Today, Michael A. Steel, former press secretary for Speaker of the House John Boehner, is joining Hamilton Place Strategies (HPS) as a managing director. Michael will use his expertise across a wide range of issues to lead communications efforts for HPS clients.

Most recently, Michael worked with the policy and communications teams on Governor Jeb Bush’s presidential campaign, serving as a senior policy and communications advisor. For the eight years prior, Michael was press secretary for House Republican Leader and later Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH), where he managed and coordinated communications strategy on a range of issues. Previously, Michael also served as the press secretary for vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan in 2012 and as communications director for House Ways and Means Committee Republicans.

“We’re thrilled Michael is joining our team,” said HPS partner Matt McDonald. “The depth of both his communications and policy knowledge makes him a perfect fit for the type of work we do and the way we approach issues. His insight and leadership will be a valuable asset for our firm’s clients, and we can’t wait to start working with him.”

“I admire HPS’s principles and clear sense of mission,” said Steel. “I’m proud to join this growing team that offers such extraordinary experience and expertise.”

Michael graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications and received a Master of Science from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
